Easy Guide for Starting a Plant-Based Diet

Some of the most common comments I hear when talking to people who have considered transitioning to a plant-based diet include:

“I wouldn’t know where to start,” “It seems too challenging,” “I don’t have time to make fancy meals”, and “I want to enjoy my food and I’m afraid I will miss meat and dairy too much.”

Do any of these sentiments sound like you?

If so, keep reading.

The thing is, it’s actually quite easy, and with all the plant-based products available nowadays, there is no need to spend hours and hours making elaborate meals. Yes, you can make fancy meals here and there, you can on any diet, but being plant-based doesn’t make fancy meals a requirement.

Here is a quick start guide to transitioning to becoming plant-based

  1. Write down a few staple meals that you love – Meals that you wouldn’t want to give up.
  2. Write a list of all the ingredients that are not plant-based
  3. Look up plant-based products that mimic these ingredients. (I will be posting my favorite meat and dairy alternatives so stay tuned!)
  4. Replace your non plant-based ingredients with the plant-based ingredients you found.

Honestly, starting out is THAT SIMPLE. Of course, from there you can branch out and try other recipes.

I swear, I have found that almost any recipe can be converted to plant-based, it might just look slightly different.

A couple more things to remember:

  1. You may need to allow your taste buds to change. It takes about a month, sometimes two, to adjust to meat and dairy alternatives. Many people have claimed that after this adjustment period, they no longer crave animal products and absolutely love being plant-based.
  2. Not all plant-based products are created equally. Try not to let one bad experience ruin plant-based eating for you. If you try an alternative meat or dairy or a recipe that is not to your liking, don’t give up! I promise there are extremely tasty products out there. Check out my recommendations or look up product reviews before you go shopping.

I love trying different plant-based products that hit the market. They are continuously improving, and there are countless resources available to help you thrive on a plant-based diet and truly enjoy it.
